From the universe's perspective, it's really just that simple.
The Crisis of False Intelligence

The human interpretation of Intelligence, with all its reductionist variations, doesn't necessarily produce intelligent outcomes. In fact, it creates a dizzying list of unintelligent outcomes.

Their decisions make perfect sense within narrow analytical frameworks. They can be rationalized with impressive sophistication.
